In an age when sequels were not the norm, Warner Bros.' 1951 Technicolor musical On Moonlight Bay was a huge success with audiences and critics alike. Two years later, the cast was brought together for this equally-successful follow-up focusing on the Winfield family. Doris Day and Gordon MacRae reprise their starring roles in this moonlit Technicolor confection, which picks up soon after the first film ended. Leon Ames, Rosemary DeCamp, Mary Wickes and Billy Gray rejoin them in this remembrance of post-World War I-era Americana. There's a new array of nine nostalgic standards -- and a strong emphasis on production numbers. Doris and Gordon spin through the Winfield kitchen to "Ain't We Got Fun," Doris crows "King Chanticleer" at a stage pageant, and the whole town heads to Miller's Pond and laces up the ice skates for the title-tune finale. Like its predecessor, this draws from Booth Tarkington's Penrod stories for its portraits of heartland mirth, values and "warm hearts, cold feet" romance. Ain't we got fun? You bet we have!
