Police inspector Léonetti, a tough, efficient policeman, is sent to a second-rate police station after being reprimanded. There, he is given a partner, the young and beautiful Jeanne Dumas. The duo is soon assigned a very difficult mission: track down a man whose evidence can help convict a murderer. They begin searching for him in some of the seediest areas of Paris.
