LOVE LIGHT, THE (1921)
LOVE LIGHT, THE (1921)
...and Life is like the Sea.
The Love Light takes place during the first World War, where Mary Pickford plays a young Italian woman, Angela Carlotti, who tends the local lighthouse and falls in love with a man she rescues from the sea. Her small village suffers devastating losses from the war, and when Angela realizes her lover is a German spy, the story takes a dramatic and unexpected turn. Angela must come to terms with her mistakes and set things right while finding her strength through such troubled times. Angela's bravery and beautiful spirit bring love and light into the lives of those around her, giving hope for a brighter future after so much pain and heartache.
Mary's dear friend, Frances Marion wrote and directed the film which features Frances's husband, Fred Thomson, as Mary's love interest. The Love Light was filmed in Carmel and Monterey, California which masqueraded as the Italian coastline and the stunning cinematography of Henry Cronjager and Charles Rosher, is revelatory today.
