But when the Hays office looked at the original version of the film, out came the scissors. This edition of Tarzan and his Mate contains the long-censored moments-and recaptures the original vision of the Lord of the Apes' life and love life. The story picks up a few years after 1932's Tarzan the Ape Man. Tarzan (Weissmuller) has been living for several years with the Englishwoman Jane Parker (O'Sullivan), but now Jane's former fiancé, Martin Arlington (Paul Cavanagh), comes to the jungle hoping to use her to find the legendary elephants' graveyard--and its fabled treasure of ivory. Arlington's arrogance and greed, however, lead to his gruesome death. Now, Tarzan races across the jungle, calling his friends, the elephants, to help save Jane from the same grisly fate.
